What is OTT TV?
"Over-The-Top" TV, also known as OTT, refers to long-form professionally produced media content, i.e., TV shows and movies, that are distributed over the internet instead of through a traditional cable or satellite connection. Most OTT TV is watched at home on large screen Connected TV's just like traditional television. Because it is internet-based, OTT TV can also be streamed to personal computers, tablets, and smartphones while at home or away from home.
What is CTV?
CTV is a television that is connected to the internet and can, therefore, stream OTT content through applications. CTV includes "Smart TVs" - where the applications are built into the TV - and connected devices like gaming consoles and set-top boxes. CTV is one way that OTT content can be consumed.
What is audience-based targeting?
Audience-based targeting is the practice of using information advertisers or third parties have gathered about consumers to deliver advertising that is more relevant to the consumer. For example, a consumer electronics manufacturer might use information collected on warranty forms to target ads to customers likely to be interested in its latest product, or an airline might direct ads to consumers who recently visited travel apps on their smartphones.

Privacy.TV is the leading privacy opt-out solution for audience-based advertisements delivered on Over-The-Top TV (OTT) streaming that works across devices and apps. How does Privacy.TV work?
Internet-connected devices like those used to power OTT TV have unique electronic signatures that can be anonymously associated with households. By choosing to opt out of audience-based OTT targeting on Privacy.TV, information about your household's interests and behaviors will not be provided to Privacy.TV partner companies. This prevents these companies from delivering audience-based OTT ads to your household.
How does Privacy.TV help companies comply with CCPA?
Privacy.TV provides consumer privacy capabilities as well as features and requirements needed to help organizations become compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) going into effect January 1, 2020.
If I opt-out on Privacy.TV, does that mean I won't receive any OTT advertising?
Opting out of audience-based targeting does not mean that your household will no longer receive any OTT advertising. It merely prevents Privacy.TV partner companies from using information about your household's interests and behaviors to influence the OTT ads you receive.

If I opt-out on Privacy.TV, will my household no longer receive any audience-based TV advertising?
Not necessarily. While the majority of companies that deliver audience-based OTT advertising are Privacy.TV partners, a few companies are not currently participating.
Do I need to periodically renew my decision to opt out to continue to be excluded from receiving audience-based OTT advertising?
Opting out via Privacy.TV is valid for five years. It's a good idea to renew your decision to opt out via Privacy.TV if you move, switch to another internet-service provider, change pay-TV providers or if five years have passed since your last opt-out.
